With the company that has built its name to become one of the most respected manufacturers of top quality motorcycles around the world, there is no doubt that each Harley-Davidson part is assured to fit in the category: superior.

Harley-Davidson was founded in 1903 and had rolled-off thousands of motorcycles since then. For more than one century of motorcycle manufacturing, the company had gone through several times where its toughness is challenged. It is seemed obvious that Harley-Davidson has gone through all. But the real test is not within the company. The real test is outside- on the road where each Harley-Davidson motorcycle is being tested everyday several thousand times over- by Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners around the globe.

What makes each Harley-Davidson motorcycle a living legacy? The answer can be found in the motorcycle itself. From the overall look of the motorcycle, to the tinniest moving part inside the engine, Harley-Davidson is superb.

Of course, every Harley-Davidson part contributes on how the motorcycle performs. The suspension parts provide the smooth ride to the Harley. The seat gives the rider comfort while cruising down the road. The infamous v-engine gives each Harley-Davidson motorcycle the power to conquer roads. The handlebars give the motorcycle the stability that each rider needs. The paint provides the exterior look of the Harley.

The different decals make each Harley unique from another Harley. The wheels roll the motorcycle to any place of any terrain. The transmission parts give better run to the motorcycle. And every Harley-Davidson part contributes to how Harley behaves on the road.

It is not surprising that each Harley-Davidson owner would want to infuse a little something out of their personality to their motorcycle. This the reason why there are several Harley-Davidson parts available just to provide better performance to the motorcycle. There are also several Harley-Davidson parts that are made to transform the stunning Harley into a more interesting motorcycle on the road.

Some Harley-Davidson parts act as an accessory. Some of these are the fender trims and instrument trims that highlights the fender and the gauges to become more attractive; the exhaust system that makes each Harley look more sporty, saddlebag and sissy bar bag that act as an accessory and provide additional storage room, backrest pad that gives extra comfort while you ride, windshield that creates a tougher look on the motorcycle, and more.

With Harley-Davidson parts, your motorcycle can posses the best look possible.

No self respecting Harley Davidson rider would take their pride and joy motorcycle, out on the road in the winter months, battling the rain snow and ice. So if you're storing your Harley over the winter months, follow these essential steps to keep it in tip top condition.

Maintaining your Harley Davidson motorcycle during the summer months can be a ritualized process of tuning, cleaning, riding and lots of standing back and admiring.

So to keep your Harley in pristine condition over the winter months follow these simple common sense tips..

Engine & Gearbox

Take your Harley out on the road and ride for a few miles to get both the engine and gearbox up to temperature. Fill the fuel tank with gas and add a fuel stabilizing product and allow it to enter the fuel system by riding.

Once back home, drain the oil from the engine and gearbox while both are still warm.

Over time oils break down and turn acidic causing corrosion and etching to the internal parts. This process depends on the regularity you change your oil and filter.

Check your battery, top up the levels and add a little grease to the terminals, consider attaching a charger to keep the battery charged, alternatively start the engine weekly while stored to keep the battery charged.

Apply a little grease to the chain and running gear to avoid those frozen links and putting strain on your chain when you roll it out in the spring.

Exhaust

Cover the exhaust ends to avoid anything entering the system, there's nothing worse than adding the sound of a rattle to the ubiquitous tones of your Harley.

Tires

Before you store your Harley inflate the tires around 10lbs over pressure to avoid any flat spots which can warp the side wall of the tire.

Body Wheels & Tins

Wash and dry your Harley Davidson thoroughly, and apply wax to all relevant areas that may be prone to corrosion. Ensure that the bike is completely dry as any remaining moisture could lead to corrosion and rust.

Storage

Finally, store your Harley in a ventilated room or garage, cover it with a sheet, and put it out the way of children, prying eyes and learner drivers.

Following these simple common sense but essential steps will keep your Harley Davidson in pristine condition over the winter months, preserving its value and condition, and when the spring comes remember to make the necessary checks with oil levels, tire pressures, and exhaust caps.

Two friends had a dream and while they worked together at a Milwaukee
engineering firm they turned their dream into reality. We know their
dream as - Harley Davidson. William S Harley and Arthur
Davidson built the first 400cc single-cylinder engine in 1902. Joining
them a year later was Davidson's older brothers Walter and
William A, and together they fitted the single-cylinder engine into the
frame of a bicycle, which became the prototype for Harley Davidson
Motorcycles. All of this was accomplished from a small shed in the
Davidson's yard.

Even though the motor was reliable, it was enlarged because it was
underpowered. The initial frame was too weak to hold the new engine so
it was replaced with a stronger, more substantial structure that was
built similar to the prototype. In 1903 they produced two more bikes
and three the following year. By 1907, Harley Davidson's
growing reputation for their reliable product helped to push their
annual production rate to over 150. The year was also 1907 when Harley
Davidson decided it was time to raise money for expansion. They became
a corporation and divided the shares among seventeen employees. They
moved themselves out of the Davidson's shed and into a much
bigger premise which is still their location - Juneau Avenue
in Milwaukee.

The early models of Harley-Davidson motorbikes had no lights and no
suspension. Within a few years after production began,
Harley's soon had fitted leading link forks a magneto
ignition and a carbide gas headlamp. The model 5 produced in 1909 had
about 4bhp from its 494cc inlet over exhaust engine, with a speed of
45mph. Bicycle petals were used to start the engine. Once the bike was
in motion the leather drive belt was tightened using a hand lever. (To
have a more contemporary view of what harley
davidson parts now look like, please visit our website).

The first V-twin Harley was built in 1909. It was the model 5D but was
not an immediate success. The V-twin produced close to 7bhp, which was
almost twice as much as the single engine but it was difficult to start
and suffered from a slipping drive belt. Two years later, in 1911, they
introduced the 45-degree V-twin with a revised valve gear, new frame
and had been fitted with a full floating seat and chain drive. These
new improvements made a huge difference which caused the
V-twin's popularity to grow. By the year 1913 the model
9E's 1000cc power plant was producing 10bhp which gave the
bike a top speed of 60mph.

Initially Harley-Davidson was reluctant to get themselves involved in
racing, such as reliability runs however, by 1914 they changed their
minds and entered a factory team. The firm's Milwaukee crew,
the "Wrecking Crew" rode powerful 8-valve V-twins
which were very competitive against the rival Merkel and Excelsior, and
Indian. This became a great period for Harley-Davidson as production
rose to more than 22,000 bikes and 16,000 sidecars in 1919. These
numbers were cut in half in the upcoming 2 years mainly because of the
Model T Ford, which put the majority of American motorcycle companies
out of business.

Harley-Davidson is known for its large capacity V-twins but the smaller
45ci Forty Five played a vital part in the history of the company. The
Forty Five, produced in 1928, was the first machine with a total loss
oil system. It was restyled and updated 9 years later to create the W
series. It was the simple and strong Forty Five that kept
Harley-Davidson in business through the Depression of the
1930's. The WLA model proved to be a useful military machine
in which close to 80,000 were being used in the Second World War. These
"war bikes" were converted for civilian use after
the war was over which helped to popularize Harley-Davidson worldwide.

In 1936, while still suffering the effects of the Depression,
Harley-Davidson introduced the Model 61E. This model's 61cc
V-twin engine was a huge advancement over other models due to its
overhead valve design and recirculating oil system. The neat style of
the 61E helped it become a huge success. It became known as the
knucklehead because of the shape of the engines rocker covers. It gave
it a technical advantage over its rival Indian and became the ancestor
to modern Harley's.

Harley-Davidson will forever be synonymous with producing great bikes.
What started as a dream, survived the Depression, and is still going
strong today. There is nothing quite like hearing the rumble of a
Harley as you're heading for the highway.

To keep your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster motorcycles running at top performance, one of the most critical things you can do is to conduct a scheduled repair. DIY maintenance undoubtedly cuts down the costs of maintaining your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster. And it's not that difficult as you think; as long as you are willing to get down on your knees and make your hands dirty. With a Kawasaki repair manual, it's as easy as these five steps.

Step 1: Start with the brakes and replace the brake pads. Your repair manual can direct you through this. Provided that you have the correct tools ready, it just takes 45 minutes of your time to get this over with. If the brakes feel a little soft, or are making a noise, then [replacing the brake pads could fix the problem. Make sure you find the correct model numbers of the brake pads for your motorcycle.

Step 2: Check the levels of brake fluid on your motorcycles. If the levels are too low, add more fluid; if they're too high, then you have to drain off some of the fluid since too much brake fluid can spill over from the tanks.

Step 3: Bleed the brakes. Go by the repair manual's directions on how to do so. For Kawasaki owners, you can start by filling a pump oil can with the new brake fluid and attach it to the brake bleeder valve via a hose. To get the fluid moving through the bike, pump the oil gradually. Because it can strip the paint, be careful not to get the fluid on the exterior of the motorcycle. Then gradually pump the brakes till you get the air out.

Step 4: Examine the oil filter. The oil filter is utilized to filter or catch any dirt or debris from coming into the engine. Clean out the dirt and debris and if there is any damage or holes, replace the oil filter immediately.

Step 5: Check the U-joint. The U-joint could be damaged or could lack lubrication if you'd notice a vibration in the bike that start out lightly but gets worse in time. Make use of a little amount of lubrication on the joint, and take the bike out for a small drive. If there's still a vibration, then change the U-joint with a new one.

If you want to save money on maintenance costs, your Kawasaki and Harley Sportster manual will surely guide you what to do. And don't forget to start with these five simple steps to cut down the costs and expensive repairs in the future.

Born in Milwaukee in 1903 by an intuition of William Harley and Arthur Davidson, the Harley Davidson legend grows progressively over time passing through the boom in two wars, the consecration of the postwar period, the celebration of the centenary and the birth of the first Harley Davidson Museum of the world.

Like all great things, even the myth Harley Davidson was born in silence by an idea, a passion, a hope almost impossible. The dream takes the form of a small motorized bicycle, made in the small garage of Arthur Davidson, flanked by his friend William Harley. And this is the first Harley in history. We are in 1901, in Milwaukee (United States) a small town that gets the notoriety thanks to the adventures of Ricky Cunningham and Fonzie, legendary stars of American TV series "Happy Days". Two years later (August 28, 1903), and after only three copies sold the company Harley Davidson was founded. The growth is gradual but unabated: in 1907 the motorcycles produced were 150, while in 1917 even 12,904.

The boom of the two conflicts

The first real boom was in 1917, when the United States entered officially in the First World War. The U.S. military requires the company 45 thousand pieces well, which include five models of about 1000 cc. This increase in production allows the Harley Davidson to become, in the '20s, the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, present in 67 countries. The first real milestone, however, is reached in 1921, when it comes to light the first motorcycle that can reach 160 km / h. Meanwhile, the post-war crisis and, more importantly, the Great Depression, remove many small production houses, leaving only two major players competing activities: Harley Davidson and Indian. With the advent of World War II, the increase in production is repeating: the motorcycles made for the military this time are 88.000!

Postwar era and the birth of the myth

After the war, the company reached two new milestones: in 1954, with the disappearance of the Indian, the only real competitor, Harley Davidson is found to be the only major company in the motorcycle market in circulation and in January 1957 is also made the "Sportster", one of the most successful models in the history of Harley Davidson, characterized by a simple line greatly appreciated by the public. But in 1969 another important event occurs: the Harley Davidson was purchased by AMF (American Machine and Foundry), who decides to drastically reduce its workforce, with devastating effects on product quality, which inevitably leads to a decline in sales and even at the risk of bankruptcy. A very difficult situation, only partly alleviated by the conquest of the world titles at the World Championship Speed in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

Then, in 1981, another turning point: AMF sells Harley Davidson to a group of 13 investors led by Vaughn Beals and Willie G. Davidson. To continue the pace, the company of Milwaukee takes a bit: Harley Davidson back to being a market leader in large displacement motorcycles only with the introduction of the "Softail Custom" in 1984, but the story becomes Legend officially in 1990 with the launch of the new model "Fat Boy", which perfectly embodies the new retro style chosen by the new management to revitalize the brand, which relies entirely on the possibility for customers to customize their motorcycles.

Meanwhile, the legend comes increasingly become part of everyday life for millions of fans around the world, by creating a series of jewelry and accessories designed entirely by Harley Davidson like watches [http://www.gioielleriabelloni.com/en/harley-davidson-by-bulova-man-watches.html] (by Bulova), rings in silver or steel, the bracelet in silver or steel pins, pendants, neck, zippo lighters, but also patches for jackets, key rings, leather bags, door lock, rims, motorcycle covers, stickers, and more.

One hundred of these years

In 2003, Harley Davidson, a brand now transformed into a real myth, is celebrating its hundredth birthday, celebrated in style in Milwaukee with the largest gathering in the history of the company and, very probably, in the history of motorcycling ever. To commemorate the event, throughout the 2003 models are marketed in Edition "Century," with special colors and tanks, accompanied by a new set of clothes.

But there's more. At Milwaukee in July 12, 2008 is created the first Harley Davidson Museum in the world, offering visitors the chance to live, between past and present, that atmosphere of freedom, passion and pride "on the road" that represent the soul of the company. Divided into three buildings on a total area of 12 thousand square meters placed in a green area of 81mila square meters, the museum contains models of motorcycles, photographs, videos, clothing, rare documents, in addition to the collection of thousands of plaques "Living the Legend" personalized with messages from fans around the world.

Harley-Davidson history is long and proud and began at the start of the 20th century. The beginnings of this American icon were very humble. In 1903, Davidson brothers Arthur and Walter along with William S. Harley built a single cylinder motorcycle in a wooden shed built by cabinet making William C. Davidson. The Davidson brother's aunt Janet painted the pin-stripes on the first few Harleys.

In 1905 the first Harley to be produced in significant numbers was the Silent Gray Fellow named for its quite operation and gray color. These were 450cc single cylinder bikes using a bicycle-style frame. To slow down and stop the rider had to peddle backwards.

Following the official formation of the company in 1907, Arthur signed up over 800 dealers in ten years. These dealers were in all of America's then 48 states. Just five years after the first Harleys were made and sold the Detroit Police bought a fleet of motorcycles. By 1925, over 2,500 police units in the US were riding Harley-Davidsons.

The first V-Twin Harley was produced in 1909. It was an inlet-over-exhaust belt-driven engine. This first V-Twin was the Model 5-D. This was the engine that would go on to make Harley famous.

A big part of Harley-Davidson history is Harleys contribution to U.S. Military efforts. In 1918 Harley supplied thousands of motorcycles to the military to be used in World War I. Almost half of all Harley-Davidsons produced that year were sold to the military. The first American GI to enter Germany was Roy Holtz, riding a Harley-Davidson.

Harley became involved in racing to prove the dependability of their bikes. Harley's first and notable success was in 1908. Walter Davidson won the Jack Pine Endurance run. Not only did the bike prove its dependability, the bike won the economy contest with 188 miles per gallon. In 1921 Harley becomes the first motorcycle to win a race with an average speed of 100PMH on a board track in Fresno, CA. Another early sucess story was the record of Joe Petrali, who set a record of 136.183MPH at Daytona Beach in 1937. Early Harley racing teams adopted a pig as their mascot and carried it on victory laps. This might have been the start of the term HOG. Racing was not always a priority for Harley but their riders have had great success over the years.

In 1941 America joins World War II. Harley produces the Model WLA which features blackout lights, high clearence fenders and metal leg shields. Almost all of Harley-Davidsons output was devoted to the military from 1941 to 1945. By the end of the war, Harley produced 88,000 WLA models for the U.S. Military and around 20,000 for the Canadians.

When looking at Harley-Davidson history, we can't forget the many World War II ex-servicemen who came back to small town America. While Harley-Davidson's civilian production had all but ceased during the war, there were plenty of army surplus motorcycles to be bought. Many of these ex-servicemen started a trend by buying and customizing these bikes. They removed or shortened the fenders to reduce weight. These bikes became known as Bobbers. These changes ultimately lead to the evolution of the Chopper.

After a post-war boom, the company's sales were damaged by the influx of cheaper Japanese and British imports. This competition ironically caused a resurgence of interest in motorcycles, which the company profited from. Harley was bought by American Machine and Foundry (AMF) in 1969. Harley-Davidson history is full of ups and downs. Some of us are old enough to remember that Harley went through some hard times during the AMF years. In 1981 senior management bought the company back from AMF.

Harley slowly came back in the 80s and now Harley-Davidson is one of the most recognized names in the world. In 1983 Harley Owners Group (HOG) was formed with 30,000 members in the first year. Now there are about a million HOG members world wide. After 105 years, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles are more popular than ever.

Thousands of Harley Davidson owners across the country have discovered the entire country, (and even world) is the market for finding that special used, or custom built Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Niche portals are updated daily with new, used, and custom built Hogs for sale or auction from Dealers, Builders, Collectors and Owners from all over the United States, in every make, model, and customization.

However, buying that special Harley, (you know... The One!) from someone you have never met, in a different city can be challenging, to say the least. Luckily for you, by following a few simple tips that have been tried and tested by many before you, your new purchase can be as painless and secure as possible, and have you air drying your teeth in no time.

1. Read the item description carefully. It may sound silly, but sometimes the excitement of purchasing that special Harley can make us read more into a description that is really there. Ensure that you are bidding on exactly what you are searching for. Most reputable sellers will include clear photographs, and information on buyer requirements, and contact information. When in doubt, simply email, or call the seller and ask questions.

2. Get to know the seller. Check out the sellers reputation You can do this by simply reviewing their feedback and if you have any questions just click on "Ask seller a question."

3. Pay safely There are several ways you can pay for your item - eBay recommend you use PaisaPay which is the safest and easiest way to pay online. Learn about the other payment options*. Credit card (and Debit Card) companies typically provide some level of identity and purchase protection as well.

4. NEVER pay with Money wiring Services Instant money transfer services are not safe to use online and are prohibited on eBay, and it's affiliates. Unscrupulous sellers prefer these payment methods and may try to convince you to pay this way but we urge you not to. Even most wire transfer companies warn against using their services for online payments, such as transactions on eBay. Look for options like PaisaPay that offer buyer protection.

5. Protect yourself If you receive an item that is significantly different to its description or you don't receive it at all, you may be protected with the Buyer Protection Program**.

*If you have paid for an item, but didn't receive it, or you paid for and received an item, but it was significantly different from the item description. Note: If you paid for your item with PayPal, you'll be taken automatically to PayPal to file a PayPal Buyer Protection claim.

**Vehicle purchases on eBay Affiliates are protected for up to $50,000 or the vehicle purchase price, whichever is lower.

There is still the question of "How do you get a Harley from one city to another safely?"

Luckily for you, eBay affiliates have the same shipping options on most vehicle description pages. Using services like Gigamove, a reputable professional shipping and moving company, you can get instant online shipping quotes from one destination to another before you even began to bid on an item. There are also options for driving directions, and airline fares for those of you that would rather drive, or fly to pick up your precious investment.

By following these simple tips, and a little common sense, you can open up a world of possibilities and not be limited to the selection of available Harley Davidson's in your surrounding area, and you can browse the available selection of all Harley's on the market on any given day, from custom builders, private owners and collectors, anywhere in the U.S.

Lastly, the ultimate shopping tip always applies, If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

Buying a Used Harley, or Harley Davidson Accessories online will save you time and money over shopping around and paying retail. Following some simple tips to protect yourself will ensure that you will be enjoying your new purchase in no time, and open up a world of available products that you never knew existed.

Sites like Bouncing Betty's frequently list new and used custom Harley's for sale everyday along side biting political humor and commentary.

Popular personalities from Hollywood and from politics have been shown with their Harley Davidson motorcycles in tow. Among the famous Harley riders are Elvis Presley, Peter Fonda, Elizabeth Taylor and even former United States President Bill Clinton...

Mention the word motorcycle and chances are the first thing that comes to your mind is a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Think of motorcycle-riding celebrities and for sure among the things that you will think about are Harley-riding celebrities like Elvis Presley and Peter Fonda.

The Harley motorcycles are considered an iconic brand that it can stand alone even without a celebrity endorser. However, it is the celebrities themselves who show off their Harleys making them in effect unofficial endorsers of the motorcycle.

Harleys is the favored motorcycle brand among popular actors and politicians. Here are some popular personalities who have been seen riding or just photographed with a Harley.

Bill Clinton
Who can beat the Harley when even the President of the United States has been shown astride the famous motorcycle? The photo of former President Bill Clinton astride the popular motorcycle brand while he was still Arkansas governor is enough advertising pitch for Harley Davidson. And when he became President, Clinton was even photographed hugging a Harley employee during a visit to the Harley plant.

Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley has been identified with the Harley motorcycles which were featured in some of his films. The King of Rock and Roll is however a real-life Harley fan and has in fact owned several Harley motorcycles. Even after his death, Elvis is still being linked to the motorcycle brand with his favorite Harley now on display at the Harley Museum. The company has also released 30 limited edition replicas of the favorite Harley motorcycle of Elvis to commemorate his 30 years death anniversary in 2007.

Jay Leno
Jay Leno is another certified Harley Davidson fan but unlike other celebrities who just love to ride their motorcycles, Leno, whose first job is that of a mechanic, is noted for being a hands-on Harley owner as he takes care of his motorcycle's repair and maintenance. He owns several Harley motorcycles and loves to get on top and under his Harleys too.

Elizabeth Taylor
If you think that Harleys are popular only among male celebrities then Elizabeth Taylor's fondness for the motorcycle will prove you wrong. The legendary star does not however own just an ordinary motorcycle but a Purple Passion Harley to match her eyes from pal Malcolm Forbes who himself owns more than fifty Harleys.

Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper
It may have been taken years ago but photos of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper astride their Harley motorcycles in the 1969 movie Easy Rider is still in demand today. This photo is a classic Harley poster that has been etched in the minds of motorcycle lovers through the years.

Brigitte Bardot
This 1950s bombshell is not just famous for her vital statistics but also for her romance with the Harley motorcycle. Next to the photo of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, it is probably the photo of Bardot astride a Harley wearing a leather jacket that is partially unzipped as well as hot pants that will always remain in the memories of riders loyal to the brand. Even her debut single which became a hit had the Harley Davidson title.

The list of celebrities who have at one time in their lives owned and rode a Harley motorcycle is endless. It is perhaps Harley's timeless appeal that makes it a favorite among people from all walks of life and from all economic status. Celebrities, after all, are just humans who could not resist the HD charm.
